Bradford Salem 17, Barnsley 17 Bradford Salem had to make do with a draw for the second time in three weeks, despite scoring more tries than their opponents.
They took an early lead courtesy of a try from flanker Dan Wyness but the visitors hit back with two penalties from fly half Patrick Jenson.
Salem responded when New Zealand No 8 Kris Falwasser (pictured) drove over from close range. The lead was extended to 17-6 when second rower Damien Pearson dived over, Jonny Robinson – playing on the wing due to a hand injury – adding the extras.
A further penalty from Jenson reduced the arrears and, in the second half, Barnsley began to get the upper hand. The pressure told when full back Andrew Appleyard raced over to make it 17-14.
The South Yorkshire side opted for a tap penalty rather than take a kick in front of the posts but the decision back-fired as Salem’s tenacious defence held firm. However, the visitors equalised with a penalty from close to the halfway line that just crept over.
The hosts almost snatched victory when a rare foray into the Barnsley 22 saw Richard Langhorn attempt a drop goal but it drifted agonisingly wide.
