Westoe 35, Otley 12 Ollie Stedman tormented his former club as Otley’s away form continued to desert them.

Stedman, who had been the Cross Greeners’ No 8 for the past two seasons, bagged 18 points, including two trademark tries and, in his new-found capacity, two penalties and a conversion.

He was aided significantly by some careless play by his old team-mates, which gave him two easy penalty chances on 12 and 18 minutes.

However, Otley gave no hint of the final outcome as they held their own while playing into a strong wind.

When Westoe lock Ian Robinson was shown a yellow card while under pressure, a neat kick from fly-half Tom Rock found winger James Twomey with room to cross wide out.

A penalty at the restart set up a line-out and a drive, from which Stedman broke away to extend the home lead with a try.

Otley’s hopes of using the conditions suffered a setback when, on 40 minutes, skipper Adam Blade was sin-binned.

Otley fought stubbornly but winger Dan Rundle found a way through, Stedman converting. Four minutes later, he strode through for his second try.

With Otley now playing high-risk rugby, bad decision- making presented fly half Dave Haswell with an easy run in.

Otley did play some good, attacking rugby and James Wood, having had the misfortune to just clip the touchline when going for the vacant line in the first half, came in from his wing to slice through and score, James Keinhorst converting.

But Westoe were in command and, on 70 minutes, full back Ryan Beattie joined the line to go in at the posts for sub Mike Booth to convert.
