Baildon 22, Halifax Vandals 3
It is perhaps an indication of how far Baildon have come under head coach Dave Duxbury that the Jenny Laners came off the pitch disappointed, having not gained a bonus point.
Hayden Lister’s fourth try of the season on just 90 seconds put the hosts in front and centre Andy Patchett increased the lead with a well-struck penalty.
Baildon then took their foot off the gas and a penalty for the visitors on 22 minutes was the only remaining score of the half.
The second period again began promisingly for Baildon, with flanker Tom Craven’s first try of the season after a powerful 20-metre run saw him take two defenders over the line with him.
Patchett converted to put Baildon 15-3 in front and a bonus point looked on the cards.
However, despite a fine individual try from winger Richard Kingham on 61 minutes, the Jenny Laners could not secure maximum points and they had to settle for a win they would have been more than pleased with before Duxbury’s arrival.
