Driffield 22, Keighley 14

Although Keighley had territorial advantage for the majority of the game, their lineout inadequacies caused them great difficulties as Driffield claimed the spoils.

The hosts were first on the scoreboard with a well-taken try for winger Sam Furbank. Keighley’s only response for a great deal of effort was a penalty by Danny McGee before Furbank crossed again.

Good approach work by the visitors was undone by a strong Driffield defence and a dominant lineout.

After absorbing a great deal of pressure, Driffield took play into the Keighley 22. Quick possession from a scrum gave outside half Lee Birch the chance to score, which he converted.

Keighley responded with a penalty for McGee, who added another early after the break, followed by a try for winger Adam Horsfall.

However, Driffield increased their lead with a try from full back Danny Smith.

In the final quarter, the hosts dropped off the pace and the Keighley forwards began to dominate but couldn’t convert pressure into points.
