Wharfedale are one of the few local sides with something left to play for this season – although they will be wishing they weren’t.
While fellow National League One side Otley host Coventry having already been relegated, the Greens are in a battle not to join them with only three games remaining.
But coach Tom McGhee insists the club do not have a points total in mind and are simply aiming to pick up as many wins as they can.
He said: “Our mentality is to prepare well and back up all the good stuff we’ve done previously. If you look too far ahead, you lose focus on what’s in front of you.”
Saturday’s trip to Rosslyn Park follows Wharfedale’s 51-13 midweek defeat in the Yorkshire Cup at Huddersfield, a display that McGhee still took plenty of positives from.
“There were a lot of solid performances by lads who stepped up to the challenge really well,” he said.
“We would have loved to retain the trophy but we had to prioritise and our hands were tied in that respect.”
Skipper Rob Baldwin makes his 150th league start for the Greens this weekend.
Cleckheaton have the chance to end the North One East season on a high after their 49-5 defeat at West Hartlepool, with their two remaining fixtures coming against teams lower in the table.
Fixtures secretary Alan Bentley is pleased with the season overall, despite a tinge of regret over the club’s mid-season dip in form.
He said: “Overall, we’re quite pleased. We’ve seen some good rugby and some players developing.
“We would’ve been in the top two had it not been for a horrible January and February, when we lost to the bottom four clubs.
“We have a number of injuries for this weekend’s rearranged game at Carlisle, including our top try-scorer Ross Hayden and goal-kicker Iain Gordon.”
In Yorkshire Division One, all three local sides already know their fate as Bradford Salem, guaranteed to finish bottom, host Scarborough, Ilkley entertain Dinnington, who are one place below them in mid-table, and fourth-placed Keighley end their campaign at home to Castleford.
Wibsey host Rossington Hornets in Yorkshire Division Five before a potentially momentous trip to Nestle Rowntree in the first of three away games that will decide their season.
