Hessle 3, Baildon 8

Baildon got back to winning ways on the east coast yesterday to move back into second place in Yorkshire Division Three.

With both teams struggling to find any sort of consistency or control after the numerous postponements caused by the weather, the first half was one to forget, with handling errors on both sides neither side was able to control possession or territory for very long.

A Nick Lister penalty on six minutes was cancelled out by a similar Hessle effort on 37 minutes to leave the scores level at 3-3 by half-time.

Head coach Dave Duxbury’s half-time chat appeared to work as the Jenny Laners came out playing with much more purpose after the break.

The visiting pack pressed Hessle back into their own half from the restart and it was on 55 minutes that the game's only try was scored when right wing Hayden Lister found just enough space to squeeze in at the corner, brother Nick narrowly missing the difficult conversion attempt.

The second half continued in the same vein with Baildon pressing and threatening the Hessle line on several occasions but being held out by some stoic defence, and at the end the visitors were pleased to come away with four points from a tricky-looking game played in difficult conditions.
