Dinnington 0, Keighley 22
This was fierce Yorkshire Division One contest on a blustery day.
Dinnington, struggling near the bottom of the table, started yesterday's game at a terrific pace.
After a torrid ten minutes of pressure, Keighley drove play upfield into the opposition 22.
A quickly-taken tap penalty by scrum half Adam Balderstone found captain Leigh Sugden in support and, using his power, he drove through two defenders for a well-worked try.
Dinnington responded with some fine attacking back play, well supported by their lively forwards. However, the Keighley defence absorbed whatever was thrown at them.
With former Wharfdale second row Dave Lister in control at the line-out and fly half Alex Brown playing the conditions well, Keighley were soon back in contention.
A superb break up the touchline by wing forward Tom Lowther and an inch-perfect pass gave speedy hooker Will Armitage a 30-metre sprint to the corner.
In the second half, playing with a ten-point advantage and the slope, Keighley thought the game was all but over.
Dinnington had other ideas, however, and spent 20 minutes in the Keighley half, most of it in their 22.
They battered their way to the Keighley line on numerous occasions, but the visitors' defence was awesome.
On the rare occasion when Keighley gained possession, rather than kicking downfield they chose to run their way out of trouble.
Unfortunately, this was nearly always the wrong option. Losing possession, they were again put under pressure.
When Keighley eventually managed to gain field position, a loose ball was swept up by winger Marcus Uren who drove it through the middle, passing to centre Adam Horsfall, who scored wide out.
Although Dinnington had the majority of possession, they were unable to make any further headway.
Losing the ball in midfield gave Keighley winger Uren another chance to attack, and this time he delivered the ball to Armitage, who showed a fine turn of speed to gain his second try and the man of the match award.
Alex Brown finished the match with a well-struck conversion.
