Head coach Graeme Sheffield has told high-flying Keighley to ignore the Yorkshire Division One table when they visit lowly Dinnington on Saturday.

His side travel to the second-from-bottom South Yorkshire outfit having snatched third place from Heath after a 13-0 victory over their Halifax visitors last week.

And on paper, the Rose Cottagers look well equipped to continue their red-hot form which has seen them win six out of their last seven league games.

But Sheffield said: “Paper counts for nothing in this league – particularly when you are playing at home.

“Teams are a different proposition at home to when they play away.”

Dinnington have only won three of their 12 games but the Keighley chief is mindful of their performance at Rose Cottage earlier in the season when the hosts sneaked home 17-16.

He said: “Dinnington played very well and got nothing other than a bonus point. We won it very late on and they felt aggrieved and were right to feel aggrieved, so we have something to prove down there.

“All games are tough in Yorkshire One, regardless of league position.

“Dinnington have beaten (seventh-placed) York by 40 points this season and lost 8-6 to (fifth-placed) Knottingley last week.”

Winger Jimmy Anson and flanker Dave Pullen are unavailable on Saturday but Danny McGee – a late withdrawal last week – returns to full back, with Rob Wilkinson moving to the wing.

Tom Lowther comes in for Pullen, while Paul Sinfield is back at prop, with Craig Spencer dropping to the bench. Nathan Thornton returns as substitute following illness.

Sheffield was full of praise for the way Keighley battled to victory over Heath.

He said: “It was a bit nervy and was not one of our best performances but it was a good old-fashioned game of rugby with no quarter given or taken.”
