Wharfedale coach Tom McGee is hoping that a new year will bring a change in their fortunes.

The Dalesmen have their last five matches in National League One, and seven of their last eight – quite a contrast to their start of four wins in five games.

But Scot McGee, who managed to enjoy a festive break in the wind and rain of John O’Groats, is optimistic that they can start the second half of the season with a win at home to Tynedale on Saturday (2.00).

“Tynedale have been on a similar run to us (six defeats in eight matches) and I am confident that we can start 2011 with a win,” said McGee.

“We haven’t played for four weeks so it is like starting again but you have to have a bit of trust in your players.

“The lads are experienced enough and have been around for long enough to be responsible for themselves fitness-wise, although we have had a couple of sessions over Christmas.

“I would hope that the mid-season break has allowed us to return refreshed and confident.

“It was a pity that the Otley match was called off on December 18 as we were confident that we could go there and win but we will certainly come out with a positive attitude against Tynedale. We should be picking from a full-strength squad, apart from Richard Rhodes, who is ill.

Tom Barrett, who was available for the Otley match, will again be in the squad.”

Wharfedale go into the contest in 11th place – two places and six points behind Tynedale, who shook off some of their Christmas lethargy by putting on a musical called Young At Heart.
