Not putting too fine a point on it, Cleckheaton’s hopes of avoiding relegation from National League Three North will probably be gone if they fail to beat Rochdale at Moorend on Saturday.

Cleckheaton are second from bottom with 27 points and Rochdale, who have played a game more, are two places and eight points better off.

“It is our biggest game of the season,” said Cleckheaton spokesman Alan Bentley.

“Jeff Jones, Dominic Castle and Steve Worsley all missed last week’s 36-17 defeat at Penrith but all should be back this weekend.

“However, we have Tom Clough and Andy Goodwin out injured.

"We have two more home games and three away, and we have to win our two at home.

“If we win three of those five and get some bonus points then we should be safe. Rochdale’s best player is Steve Collins, their No 10, and it isn’t only us that say so.

“He has played for Lancashire, and it important for us that Jeff Jones plays as he will try and keep him quiet.”
