Otley 22, Redruth 20

Otley’s slick handling was again in evidence but on this occasion they were more precise in their finishing – the result being a four-try win and a bonus point.

There should have been more tries but playing for 30 minutes with 14 men tested their defensive qualities, Redruth taking advantage by driving lock Richard Carroll over each time Otley had a man in the sin-bin.

An explosive start saw Otley up within a minute. Skipper Howard Parr ran back the kick-off, No 8 Ollie Stedman took over before handing on to centre James White, who found a gap and drew the cover to put winger James Twomey on a 35-metre gallop to the line.

Playing with confidence, Otley were testing Redruth at every quarter as hooker Ben Steele showed great pace down the touchline before being edged into touch Another breakthrough came on eight minutes when scrum half Stephen Depledge, at the base of a ruck on half-way, chipped for winger Ryan Duckett to chase and secure before Parr crossed.

It took consecutive penalties to get Redruth into the Otley 22 but their workmanlike forwards began to show their worth.

Further penalties saw Otley prop Adam Blades yellow-carded and, within a couple of minutes, Carroll was over, full back Adryan Winnan converting.

Though a man short, Otley continued in the same vein and White cut through from 45 metres to score.

Winnan kicked a penalty just before the break but Otley’s Chris Georgiou neatly stepped inside the cover to run in under the posts at the start of the second half, Ben Hough converting.

The Cross Greeners’ No 7 Chris Walker was yellow-carded for not allowing Redruth to tap and run a penalty and, immediately on his return, replacement Mark Bennett followed him.

Their absence saw Red-ruth score twice but the hosts held on.
