Players find it easy to show loyalty to Wharfedale, and that sentiment is backed up on Saturday in their National League One match at Stourbridge.
Fly half Mark Bedworth will become the 20th player to notch 100 league games for the Greens.
He is named in a squad of 20, the final make-up of the side depending upon two late fitness tests following last week’s bruising match against London Scottish, where the Dalesmen had to desperately defend their line late on.
Wharfedale are strengthened, however, by the return of Andy Hodgson and Oliver Renton.
In line with tradition, though, the side will be led out by Bedworth.
This will be the Greens’ ninth trip to Stourbridge in successive seasons, making it the longest-running fixture in the division.
Nevertheless, this time the Dalesmen are in better shape than their hosts, who languish in 13th place, eight points but only one place above the relegation zone.
Stourbridge’s season was meandering in mid-table comfort until December, since when they have won only twice – both at home – to relegation-threatened Otley and Nuneaton.
However, the Midlanders have lost five of their last six matches, including large defeats at Esher and Tynedale, in the course of which they conceded 160 points.
Back in October, the Greens beat Stourbridge by 31-16, scoring five tries to one.
