Bradford Salem are only two victories away from a Twickenham final.
The Heaton club, who won the Provincial Insurance Cup at headquarters in both 1991 and 1992, are Yorkshire’s sole representatives in a pared-down Intermediate Cup this season.
Salem should have been at Ryton on Saturday in a pool match but the Durham Junior Cup winners didn’t fulfil their fixture against Northern, leaving it as a straight battle between Salem and Northern to become pool winners.
They meet at Salem on Saturday, February 27, and Salem’s fixture secretary Neil Klenk said: “If we win that we will face the Midlands winners, and the winners there will go to Twick-enham.”
Instead of a trip to Tyneside this weekend, Salem can instead play their re-arranged Yorkshire Division One home match against Scarborough.
The hosts will be without unavailable skipper Kris Falwasser, hooker Sean Fields taking over the captaincy.
Bradford Salem (home to Scarborough): R Langhorn; C Savva, S McManus, J Robinson, K Whata; J Davies, I Woodwiss; C Buxton, S Fields, J Bradbury, J Morrell, B Scarbrough, D Pearson, J Luxton, D Hutton. Replacements: D Luxton, P Collins, J Booth.
