Otley 16, Doncaster Knights 27
re was very little between these two sides but Otley were made to pay for their slow start.
An early penalty gave Doncaster a 10m line-out and from the drive No 7 Neil Cochrane was awarded a try.
The referee, like many others, suspected a double movement and consulted his assistant, who gave the score the nod. A disappointed Otley found their restart being run back at them, left winger Donavan Van Vuuren using an overlap to go in at the corner from where full back Jamie Lennard hit a fine conversion.
Three minutes later the visitors were given a straight 32m penalty chance and Otley were deep in trouble.
They regrouped admirably and were soon putting the Knights under pressure. Doncaster were drawn to the limits of legality in their defending but eventually they overstepped and fly-half Tom Rhodes made them pay with a penalty on 22 minutes.
His second, just before the break, was the only reward for much Otley pressure.
The hosts changed their shirts for the resumption while Doncaster tried to change all three front row men within a minute but the referee would have none of it and they had to wait a further ten minutes, by which time the third man was injured.
Doncaster struck first in the second half, prop Thomas Davies being driven over. Otley replied with a penalty from replacement fly half Adam Greendale, who was starting a new combination with Andy Brown.
There was a touch of bad luck when Xavier Andre slipped while superbly taking a high kick and was penalised for not releasing. The kick provided an attacking line-out and centre Stephen McColl slipped through to the posts, Leonard converting.
Still Doncaster struggled to contain Otley and they lost prop Richard List and scrum half Jamie Albison to the sin-bin.
A half-break and well-timed pass from Greendale put Luther Burrell over, converted by the fly half, but they were unable to profit further.
