Bradford Salem 27, Ormskirk 19
Bradford Salem reached the last 32 of the EDF Energy Senior Vase thanks to a second-half comeback against South Lancashire and Cheshire Division One side Ormskirk.
In atrocious conditions at Shay Lane, Salem took an early 5-0 lead when forward Ben Scarbrough went over in the right corner.
The visitors hit back with three penalties in quick succession and extended their lead to 16-5 with a converted try. Salem responded with a score from winger Chris Savva but they were behind 16-10 at the break.
Early in the second half, Salem conceded a further penalty and an upset was very much on the cards.
However, the home side began to pin their opponents in their own 22 through the boot of fly half Jonny Robinson.
The pressure took its toll and skipper Steve Cowman drove over from a rolling maul.
Robinson landed the conversion to take his side to within two points and was again on target with a penalty in front of the posts to give the Heaton side a slender 20-19 advantage.
Ormskirk found it difficult to get out of their own half and, in a desperate attempt to break out, the visitors tried to chip over the Salem backs.
The ball bounced kindly to Joe Simpson who coasted over the line for the match-winning try and Robinson added the extras.
