Keighley 24, Redcar 5

Keighley stuttered and stalled before securing the points against a plucky Redcar side in Yorkshire Division One.

The visitors took an early lead when Keighley's carelessness and lack of discipline earned the wrath of the referee and, with forward Michael Feather in the sin-bin, flanker Graham Evans was forced over for a try.

Two excellent tries by skipper Rob Ellis, both converted by Alex Brown, gave Keighley a half-time lead and, with a little more luck and concentration, this could well have been extended.

A second-half penalty goal by Brown and a try and conversion by the same player made the game safe.

Keighley failed to capitalise on their extra pace into the backs.

They were sucked into a dour forward struggle, playing to the visitors' strengths.

Even after referee Rob Stains added to his tally of four yellow cards with a red for Redcar prop Eddie Doi for striking, Keighley were never properly able to subdue the visitors' pack.

Wingman Sam Walker was twice held up close to the line as Keighley's frustrations continued right up to the final whistle.
