Jack Ellis - England's oldest surviving rugby union international - has died in Northampton aged 95.
Born in Rothwell, near Leeds, he played for Wakefield and won his only national cap in 1939 against Scotland at Murrayfield, England triumphing 9-6 in their last international before the Second World War in what was reportedly a rather dreary contest.
A lively scrum half who made five appearances for Yorkshire in 1938 and also represented the Barbarians five times, Ellis taught the classics at Fettes College, Rossall and Scarborough Boys' High School.
He leaves a widow Joy and sons David and Richard. A service to commemorate Ellis' life will be held at St Andrew's Church, Steyning, West Sussex on Tuesday (11.30am).
