JON Feeley, who is back as Wharfedale's head coach for the rest of the season, will be far from a one-man band as they strive to avoid relegation from National League One.

He said: "My circumstances haven't changed from when I gave up last May due to a promotion at work, so I will be calling on Andy Hodgson, Hedley Verity and John Lawn to help me.

"None of the positions of the other coaches at the club have changed, but I will be calling on such as Hedley and John for specialist sessions as they know far more about the back row and scrummaging than I do.

"As for a title, I am returning as head coach, but only until the end of the season, so it is a funny one.

"However, although I have only been to one or two training sessions since I stood down, I have tried to get to as many home games as possible and I have also had access to tapes of all of the matches, which has been my main source of information."

A statement on the club website read: "After the departure of Tommy McGee, the seamless transition of the involvement of Jon is a welcome position for the club to be in.

"He will join the coaching team with immediate effect."

McGee, who has a job as an operations manager at a seafood company in Wick, saw his charges give a wholehearted display in picking up two bonus points in a 35-29 defeat at sixth-placed Ampthill last Saturday.

Feeley said: "The only disappointment is the injury to James Doherty.

"He tackled low and hit his head on an opponent's knee and leg. It would have knocked anybody out, so we won't James for this weekend's match at home to Rosslyn Park (2.00)."

Wharfedale's website stated: "During the course of the match at Ampthill, James unfortunately took an accidental blow to the head as a result of which he was unconscious for a while.

"He was taken to hospital for a CT scan which, we understand, did not pick up any problems. We wish him well for a quick and full recovery."

With Doherty absent against the eighth-placed visitors, Phil Woodhead returns at scrum half, while Chris Howick is at flanker after a back injury.

The teams have met 28 times in National One, with one match being drawn and each side having 13 wins, but the Londoners have won the last two matches at The Avenue.
