Westoe 22 Cleckheaton 41
CLECKHEATON scored seven tries, and at times played some flowing rugby at already-relegated Westoe.
James Wilson got the first with a sprint under the sticks two minutes after the start, following a break from Rob Afoa-Peterson, Cleckheaton's man of the match.
Alex Dawson barged his way over for Cleck's second eight minutes later, and both tries were converted by Ross Hayden.
A charged-down kick gave Westoe some hope when Sam Gaff caught the ball and went over, and the home side got within four points when Raymie Elliott bludgeoned his way to the line.
Cleckheaton re-took control when Martin Woodhead squeezed in at the corner on 38 minutes, and they finished off the half with flair, when Hayden scored Cleck's bonus point try two minutes later.
One of these efforts was improved with a conversion, and at the interval Cleckheaton had opened up a 26-12 lead.
Westoe hit back in the second half when the visiting pack stood off the home side's line-out.
Cleck were expecting a truck and trailer and a penalty but the catcher, Gaff, read the play and charged through on his own, tip-toeing down the touchline for an unconverted try.
Westoe then put creditable pressure on their visitors, sensing the possibility of finishing off their season with a win.
However, Cleckheaton upped the tempo as Westoe tired, and tries for Jack Bickerdike, Dawson and Brad Marsden put the west Yorkshiremen out of sight.
Westoe did have the last say and a bit of personal pride for lock Gaff, who went over for his hat-trick and in so doing grabbed Westoe a hard-earned bonus point.
