SSE National League One: Richmond 34 Wharfedale 19
WHARFEDALE conceded five tries in a disappointing first half, although they were transformed in the second half, not only keeping out the Londoners but scoring two tries to bring some respectability.
The visitors also scored a try in the first half, and a bonus point for four tries looked on as Dale pressed hard in the closing minute but Richmond, conceding penalties and picking up a yellow card, held out with determined defence.
Richmond's first-half dominance was a mixture of strong forward play, good handling and running from the backs, plus poor defence from some Wharfedale players.
The home side opened with a walk in try from No 8 Chris Davies, which Rob Kirby converted, who also added a penalty before unconverted tries from Jordan Burns and Kino Corradi were added to give the home side a 20-point lead after 20 minutes.
Jack Barnard crossed for Wharfedale and Lloyd Davies added the extras to bring the visitors back into the game but Richmond finished the first half as they had started, Ross Jones-Davies and Jordan Burns touching down, and with Kirby adding the extras Richmond went in at half-time with a justified 34-7 advantage.
Dale showed immense character to come out with determined second-half display.
James Druce and Jake Armstrong, with Davies converting the second, touched down before the final desperate flourish.
