West Park Leeds 38 Keighley 3
DEPLETED Keighley were comprehensively out-muscled by a strong West Park outfit in the SSE Yorkshire Two encounter at The Sycamores.
The visitors started well, with an early penalty for centre Danny McGee, but West Park then gained good field position and, from a line-out, captain John Fletcher was driven over.
Although Keighley made good progress, they lost the ball too easily in contact, allowing the hosts the chance to break out of defence, quick hands giving winger Alistair Booth an easy run-in, converted by full back Simon Towler.
Towards the end of the half, Fletcher got his second try from another well-worked line-out drive.
In the second half, Keighley again started well, with some strong runs by No 8 Josh Hannah.
However, their frailties were exposed when a scrum was shunted over the line, the referee awarding a penalty try which Towler converted.
Any chance Keighley had of a recovery were dashed when their scrum half David Needham went to hospital with a neck injury as a result of foul play.
Although West Park prop Adam Hewitt was red-carded for the offence, Keighley also lost Sam Booker, sent off for retaliation in what was admittedly an isolated incident.
Keighley battled on but poor defence gifted tries for winger Harry Ibe and replacement Jake Duxbury, both converted by full back Towler.
