Keighley 18 West Leeds 31
KEIGHLEY, looking for the converted try that would have given them a 25-24 victory, gave away an interception try to West Leeds' Jack Marshall, Keir Breakwell converting to complete the scoring.
The visitors started the SSS Yorkshire League Two game well, excellent positional kicking and good line speed in defence putting the hosts under pressure.
At a line-out deep in their 22, Keighley's forwards were unable to cope with a driving maul which led to a try for back-rower James Kirk, full back Breakwell adding the difficult conversion.
Breakwell then added a penalty and was soon able to convert second-rower Dan Bird's try, Keighley replying with two Alex Brown penalties before half-time.
The second half also started badly for the home side, a run from deep catching them off guard and giving speedy winger Josh Cassell the chance to evade some lacklustre tackling and score in the corner for Breakwell to convert.
The Keighley pack, shocked into action, began to dominate and some fine interplay was finished off by winger Luke Carter, who scored in the corner.
From that point on, West Leeds were under severe pressure, good runs from forwards Josh Hannah and Leigh Sugden giving Keighley captain Will Armitage a well-taken try, converted by Brown.
With six points the difference and domination of territory and possession, Keighley looked set to snatch victory. However, they were too intent on forcing the game, leading to that interception try and conversion.
