SSE Yorkshire Division Three: Baildon 16, Castleford 22

BAILDON, who gave leaders Castleford a real contest on a day of ever-changing weather, were left to rue their own ill discipline.

Playing uphill and into the wind in the second half, they led 15-14 with five minutes left when, after a dust-up on the ten-metre line, the hosts had hooker Tom Massey sent off and prop Pete Lowth sin-binned.

Castleford's kicker landed the subsequent penalty and then his accurate crosskick allowed their winger to score a try on the final whistle to secure victory.

Baildon fly half Oli Waddington's penalty put them ahead in the third minute and, although the visitors scored a try wide out, Waddington was successful again to make it 6-5.

But a minute before half-time, Castleford landed another penalty to lead 8-6, leaving Baildon wondering if they could succeed up the slope.

Their hopes were first raised by co-ordinated forward play, which led to full back Matty Robinson's first try of the season, and then by Massey giving Joe Moore the ball, the centre squeezing through the smallest of gaps before winning a foot race against the visitors' full back by inches to make it 16-8 with 30 minutes left.

However, two well-aimed penalty kicks reduced the deficit to two points, only for the match to be dead-locked at 16-14 as Baildon's forwards drove up the slope from deep in their half.

Then came the 75th-minute dismissals that turned the contest decisively in Castleford's favour but the final missed conversion at least gave them a losing bonus point, although it didn't take away the pain of feeling hard done by.
