YORKSHIRE Division Two pacesetters Bradford Salem are bidding to take a third successive Yorkshire One scalp on Saturday in the Corporate Leisurewear Yorkshire Shield (2.00).
The Heaton club, who have already beaten Wath (tenth in Yorkshire One) 31-25 at home and Old Brodleians (12th) 23-14 away, now face York (sixth) at home.
The clubs have met before, chiefly when both were in Yorkshire One, and Salem beat their North Yorkshire visitors twice at Shay Lane in 2009 – 22-5 in January and 27-21 in November, and also defeated them 18-16 there in March, 2007 and 29-7 in December 2005 .
It hasn't been one-way traffic, however, as their last league meeting was in April 2011 – the season Salem's first-team manager Neil Klenk calls our "annus horribilis" – when York won 22-17 as the Bradford club were demoted.
And they haven't been back to Yorkshire One since, although, as Klenk says. "Salem are a different team now".
The hosts have full back Danny Belcher returning after shoulder and hamstring trouble, and also have lock Rhys Green and flanker Jamie Booth back, while scrum half Jack Mitchell is travelling up from Hertford to play.
However, on the other side of the coin, second rows Danny Snowden and John Morrell are not available.
Reviving Baildon are also at home in a quarter-final, this time in the Yorkshire Silver Trophy, where they face Durham & Northumberland Division Three leaders Whitby.
