Moore 0 Keighley 50
Without a league game due to York’s involvement in the Intermediate Cup, Keighley gained a confidence-boosting win at Warrington-based Moore in a friendly.
In atrocious weather, the visitors warmed to their task with an early try for winger Luke Carter before fine forward play saw Leigh Sugden power his way over for two well-taken tries, one of which was converted by Alex Brown.
Although Moore drove play deep into Keighley territory, they were unable to worry the defence and wing forward Shaun Minikin broke away in mid-field to run in under the posts and extend the visitors’ lead, Brown adding the extras.
Moore had a fair share of possession after the break but were dominated by the eager Keighley forwards.
No 8 Sugden relished the deteriorating weather conditions and his high work-rate was rewarded with a further two tries, both of which were converted by Brown.
Debutant Olly Mitchell joined the line to cross in the corner before second-rower David Illiff finished off a fine run by winger Liam Everett to score wide out, Brown landing the difficult conversion.
