Knottingley 28 Baildon 13
Baildon were unlucky to come away empty-handed but showed great character after the previous week’s Yorkshire Two drubbing at the hands of Bradford Salem.
The Jenny Laners conceded two tries within the first 12 minutes but an impressive fightback gave the visitors a half-time lead.
That came following a fine individual try from stand-off Nick Lister, who outpaced his opposite number to score under the posts. Full back Jarrod Huss tagged on the extras and also kicked two penalties to give Baildon a sniff of their first win of the season at the break.
However, although the Jenny Laners once again tackled ferociously, the much heavier Knottingley forwards took control in the second half. Three of the 11 second-half penalties conceded by Baildon were converted and a 78th-minute effort by the hosts’ hooker sealed victory.
