Keighley 10, Dinnington 17
Against the biggest, most experienced pack in SSE Yorkshire Division One, Keighley did well to contain early Dinnington attacks.
Eventually gaining some decent possession, the hosts, with Marco Ferrazzanno to the fore, forced play upfield and the ball was moved wide, centre Ben Blackwell drawing his man to put winger Adam Horsfall in at the corner.
Dinnington then took control of territory and, from a line out and maul, veteran second-rower John Dudley forced his way over.
In the second half, Keighley, forced to play an open game, did well and had a number of chances of scoring but the Dinnington defence managed to keep them out.
Returning to the ascendancy, Dinnington’s replacement No 8 Will Marshall picked up from a scrum and beat two tacklers through pace and strength to score wide out.
With their back line underperforming, Dinnington were forced to use their forward power to drive play into the Keighley 22, where once again Marshall’s strength was too much for the defence and he got his second try, converted by outside half Johnny West.
Keighley raised their game and some powerful running from their forwards took play into the opposition half, eventually the pressure telling when Keighley's second-row David Iliff charged down a defensive kick to score.
A few minutes later, wing forward Tom Lowther broke through and was tackled just short of the line.
With time running out, Dinnington, with the weather deteriorating, kept the ball among the forwards and ran the clock down to the final whistle.
