Leicester Lions 21, Otley 9
With penalties or free-kicks coming every other minute, leading to three yellow cards and two penalty tries, there was little continuity in this SSE National League Two North game in which Otley threw away the few chances they created.
Catching the kick-off, Dan Temm set off on one of his runs and found support, Otley briskly and confidently making their way upfield and gaining a penalty to move into the home 22, only to lose the throw.
However, another followed quickly on halfway which Mark Ireland duly kicked.
A penalty at the re-start led to an early yellow card for home fly half Jonathan Boden, but Otley were unable to take advantage, eventually finding themselves forced back to their line, where, after a number of penalties, a penalty try was awarded, the returning Boden converting.
Otley were showing glimpses of the football of which they are capable but they lack a finisher and found themselves in trouble when Ben Steele was yellow-carded just before the break.
Although starting the second half brightly, it was Ireland, with another long-range penalty, that reduced the deficit but an interception by the Lions in their 22 took them close and, after a struggle to keep their line intact, a second penalty try was conceded, Boden again converting.
A third penalty from Ireland raised the spirits but breaking away from a midfield scrum while Temm was in the sin-bin, centre Sam Smith crashed over for ther hosts, Boden converting to leave Otley without a bonus point.
