Otley 40, Sheffield Tigers 16

A strong, workmanlike game from Sheffield Tigers was not enough to overcome a stylish performance from Otley, with fly half Mark Ireland having a field day in their SSE National League Two North clash, amassing 25 points.

The Tigers made a good start, following up their kick-off to catch Otley offside, giving centre William Carrington a simple penalty.

But Otley were quickly into their stride, a penalty gaining them a five-metre line-out from where Ireland, with a neat little chip nipped through to score and convert.

Sheffield pressure was released with a typical break by Otley flanker Dan Temm, which ended with a penalty stroked over from 40 metres by Ireland.

Otley continued to build on their lead, with winger Harry Hudson racing in at the corner.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Carrington added a second penalty but when Sheffield centre Jonathan Buchanan was yellow-carded for a tip tackle, Ireland duly obliged from the 40-metre line.

He was soon back in action. Looping round the centres, he went over in the corner straight after the break, and when winger James Wood finished off from a tap penalty, Ireland converting both.

Otley were safe but they succumbed to a pushover try, replacement Joshua Redfern grounding, but at a scrum 22 metres out, Temm picked up and found his way to the line, Ireland converting.

Then, after full back Peter Swatkins came up to score for the visitors, he ended the game with another penalty.
