Sheffield Medicals 35, Baildon 0

Despite going down to a seventh consecutive defeat, Baildon came through this clash against SSE Yorkshire Division Two leaders Sheffield Medicals with much credit after another improved performance.

Baildon's head coach Adam Falkner decided to sit out the game on the bench to allow 18-year-old scrum half Patrick Sowter to make his debut, and the youngster took his chance with a determined and workmanlike display which typified his team-mates' efforts.

On a wide pitch in good conditions, the home side predictably started the game trying to play open, expansive rugby but were met with some solid defence which kept the scoreboard blank for 20 minutes.

A change of tactics from the home side, however, did reap dividends when the students managed to score two pushover tries after securing line-out possession close to the Baildon line.

Another surge from the home side resulted in a yellow card for Baildon's Alistair Beaumont when the No 8 was adjujed to have deliberately strayed offside at the maul. The resultant penalty gave the home side a 15-0 interval lead.

The Jenny Laners' continued to improve in the second half and managed to create several controlled phases of possession but eventually the superior fitness of the home side, coupled with Baildon's second yellow card being brandished to centre Hayden Lister for dissent, proved the difference.

Although the Jenny Laners never gave up, the home side ran in a further four tries to leave Baildon still rooted to the foot of the division without a single point.
