Otley 33, Westoe 24
Another good display saw Otley claim full points in SSE National League Two North but lowly Westoe, desperately in need of them, did not make it easy, twice being in the lead though never suggesting that they could win.
Centre Jack Mackie, finding a way through on seven minutes, put James Twomey on a run and was there to take a return pass, full back Ben Cooper converting from wide out.
Westoe replied four minutes later, a penalty into the corner setting up a drive for prop Gareth Nesbitt to score, and they took the lead when centre Lomi Fa’atau intercepted to race in from halfway, fly half Matthew Mellish converting.
A drive on the left held, scrum half Stephen Depledge put in an accurate kick to the opposite corner which was gathered by Twomey to level but the visitors came back when centre Gareth Roberts, following pressure from his forwards, found a gap.
The half-time lead was secured when Otley centre Michael Coady, from line-out possession, went outside his cover to feed Twomey, who went in at the posts.
The conversion was easy for Cooper, and straight after the break winger Ollie Cicognini’s pace took him through for a diving finish.
Hooker Ben Steele also grounded from a drive, both tries being converted.
Westoe, despite having a forward in the sin-bin, conjured up a converted try for winger Daniel Rundle, and Mellish just failed to claim a second bonus point when a last-minute penalty attempt fell short.
