After suffering two narrow defeats, Otley are looking to return to wining ways at home to a Westoe side fighting to avoid relegation.

Interim director of rugby Ryan Duckett expects a tough test for his side, who are anxious to secure fifth place in SSE National League Two North.

“We know that Westoe will make things tough for us, so I don’t expect it to be any easier than our last two games against Hull Ionians and Preston Grasshoppers.

“It is up to us to put together a good performance, and a win would help give us momentum as we head towards the end of the season,” Duckett said.

Otley were without the injured Toby Williams, Harry Hudson, Alex Ball and Jonathan Matthews, along with the suspended Jon Stallard at Preston, but it is a measure of the progress the club has made this season that the players were frustrated and upset to lose.

“We were thrashed at Preston last year, and for much of Saturday’s game it looked as if we would get away with a win until we had a bad spell late in the game,” said Duckett.

“The players were annoyed with themselves about not winning.

“That shows how our expectations have changed.

“I am hoping that the disappointment will feed our determination to get a win over Westoe.”
