Baildon came through an x-rated clash to beat Bramley Phoenix 25-22 and secure four vital points in their hunt for promotion from SSE Yorkshire Three at Jenny Lane.
Trailing 15-13 on 60 minutes, Baildon looked to have the game in the bag when the visitors were reduced to 12 men after referee Adam Cockerel showed a red card to Bramley’s outside centre for striking, joining two team-mates who had earlier been yellow-carded.
However, with Baildon pressing their opponents' line at every opportunity, Bramley’s open side flanker managed to intercept a needless pass to score a converted try on 67 minutes to put his side 22-13 ahead and within sight of an unlikely victory.
The Jenny Laners refused to buckle and responded with tries by hooker Dale Tabiner on 80 minutes and lock James Fox in the dying seconds – stand-off Jake Duxbury improving Fox’s match-winner with a superb touchline conversion, adding to his earlier conversion of left wing Richard Kingham’s touchdown on nine minutes and penalties on 16 and 46 minutes.
The Jenny’s Laners need to secure 14 points from their remaining four fixtures to ensure promotion to Yorkshire Two next season for the first time in the club’s history.
