Ilkley A 62, Baildon 10
Former winners Ilkley A made a resounding start to this year’s Spray Plant UK (Ltd) Aire-Wharfe Cup tonight.
They defeated under-strength visitors Baildon 62-10, scoring ten tries and kicking six conversions in a match that was halted 11 minutes early.
Tries came from hooker Andy Merkin (2), full back Sam Boot (2), Paul Petchey (2), fellow centre Joe Spencer, flanker Nathan Bland, lock Timour Ahmed and left winger Danny Whitelaw, Boot adding five conversions and Ed Brown one.
Baildon, who have an important Yorkshire Division Three league match at home to Bramley Phoenix on Saturday and also the defence of their RFU Junior Vase at Twickenham on the horizon, gave game-time to first-team squad members Jarrod Huss, JJ O’Connell and father and son Andy and Dannyn Pollard.
Their tries came from fly half Oliver Waddington and Matt Robinson.
Tomorrow night the focus shifts to Ovenden Park, where Halifax entertain Roundhegians Seconds (7.15).
