Super League champions Leeds Rhinos and Championship side Whitehaven have announced an enhancement of their successful relationship.
The clubs have been working together to help rugby league prosper in west Cumbria and to further the opportunity for young people to play the sport at the highest possible level and achieve a fit and healthy lifestyle for two years.
As part of this continuing partnership, Leeds Rhinos have agreed to play a friendly game again on January 29 next year, with a dinner for local businesses and supporters with the Rhinos' first-team players and coaching staff the evening before, and the Leeds Rugby Foundation team based in west Cumbria during the week leading up to the game.
As part of this initiative, Whitehaven are rebranding their lotteries based upon the club's colours of chocolate, blue and gold.
Chocolate membership is the current Pride of Five Lottery and means no change to current members.
This remains at £1 a week with a £100 per day draw five days per week and two £5,000 draws per year, the next draw being next month.
In addition there are draws for large-screen TVs throughout the year.
The current 200 Club will become the Blue membership and costs £10 per month, which includes entry to the Chocolate membership and includes entry into the Leedsline £500 per day draw, a monthly £500 a draw for Haven only members, and two £500 holiday voucher draws per year for Haven members and the opportunity to win tickets for every Leeds Rhinos home game.
There will be a Gold membership that includes all the benefits of the Chocolate and Blue memberships, along with a season ticket and an exclusive personalised polo shirt, which allows payment of your season ticket monthly, all for £20 a month for adults and £15 per month for concessions.
Building upon the major sponsorship deal announced with NMP recently, who are sponsoring Whitehaven RLFC’s community programme, in which Whitehaven's community team are in schools on a daily basis, this is being further enhanced by the Leeds Rugby Foundation team spending time alongside the Whitehaven team on various occasions during the year. Leeds are also offering the best young players associated with Whitehaven the opportunity to train with them for a week.
In addition there will also be a talent ID weekend that will give the opportunity for players to earn a contract with Haven or Leeds, with potentially a professional contract alongside a college or university course.
Leeds Rhinos' chief executive Gary Hetherington said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Whitehaven.
"We have been warmly received on our previous visits and we are especially looking forward to bringing the Super League trophy with us again on this occasion.”
Whitehaven chief executive Barry Richardson said: “The support by Leeds is outstanding. To work together with the current Super League champions is a further boost in our aims to progress Whitehaven on and off the field and give youngsters the opportunity to develop in the game.
"2012 is a massive season for Whitehaven in our attempt to gain promotion to the Championship in readiness for the 2013 season in the new stadium.
"This is a great opportunity for members of the community to support the club to help achieve this ambition.”
Paul Goodwin Whitehaven's lottery manager. added: “Members of the lotteries to date have helped the club move forward strongly over the last 12 months and this support is vital and much appreciated.
"The link up with Leeds gives us an opportunity to move the club forward to a higher level and give supporters the chance to help shape the future of the club.”
Whitehaven's community manager Amanda Hewer is delighted at the partnership with the Leeds Rugby Foundation team and the sponsorship also provided by NMP.
The current schools' programme has seen Amanda and her team carry out coaching sessions across Copeland in 32 different schools to over 1,000 pupils.
She added: “The link up with Leeds helps us develop our programme further and raise the profile of rugby league in schools.”
