Victoria Rangers, returning to action after a two-week break due to the non-appearance of opponents, lost 36-20 at home to Parkside Hawks.
Rangers found themselves 22-0 down and reduced to 11 men by half-time due to bouts of indiscipline and a series of baffling refereeing decisions.
They rallied after the interval and, with a more controlled performance and an evening up of the penalty count, pulled back to within ten points through tries from Damian Smith and Daniel Cookson, both goaled by Smith.
The Hunslet outfit restored their lead with a converted try soon after but Rangers replied again through Jason Dalladay.
Parkside finally put the game out of sight by crossing twice more, before Smith added his second try to finish the scoring.
