Queensbury have been granted a bye in both the first round of the Northern Rail BARLA National Youth Cup for under-14s and under-16s in mid-January.

However, there is no such luck for Wibsey or Keighley Cougars Cubs.

Wibsey have a derby at home to Stanningley in the under-14s, while in the under-16s they make the long trip to Broughton Red Rose.

The Cubs entertain Askam at under-14 level but must visit Cumbrians Wath Brow Hornets in the under-16s.

Wyke make the short trip to Ovenden at under-14 level, while Rodley Rockets have a lengthy journey to Egremont.

West Bowling and Stanningley both have home draws at under-16 level – against Myton and Hunslet Parkside respectively – while Drighlington are at Crosfields.

At under-18 level, Keighley are at Wigan St Judes, while Drighlington have a home derby against Batley Boys.

The draw was made by Great Britain legend Andy Gregory at Huddersfield Railway Station.

BARLA youth and junior chairwoman Carole Land said: “We have had a record entry and for the eventual winners of each age group, the sides will be able to say that they are the best in the country.

“The standard of rugby league at this level gets better and better and the coaches, who give up their own time, and the players are to be congratulated for the goods they produce on the field.

“We are anticipating another bumper Bank Holiday Monday crowd on May 4 for the climax of the competition.”
