Clayton are through to the quarter-finals of the Halbro Yorkshire Cup following their 16-12 home win over local rivals Keighley Albion.

The first half was a close-run affair with the sides level at 6-6.

The Villagers posted a try from prop John Parkinson, converted by Tony Williams.

The second stanza belonged to the hosts as stand-off Williams scooted over followed by wingman Andy Seager, one of which was converted by Danny Belcher.

The Albion managed a late effort but it was too late to prevent Clayton from earning a visit to Skirlaugh Bulls in the next round.

Birkenshaw are kicking themselves after their 26-18 exit at Skirlaugh.

Birky scored three tries to one to go into the sheds 12-4 up but a lack of concentration in the third quarter cost them dear.

Eddie Kilroy, John Evans, John Gallagher and Andy Hirst reached the whitewash, unfortunately all too far out for marksman Matt Honeysett, who could only manage one conversion.

Last season's runners-up Queensbury bowed out of the competition with a surprise 12-4 defeat against St Josephs.

In Division One of the Pennine League, Victoria Rangers lost 30-20 at home to Illingworth.

A depleted Vics could not recover from the 14-0 interval deficit but, in a spirited second half, full back Len Dalladay and centre Mark Nicholls made the chalk and hooker Ray Greenwood put in a 30-tackle stint to win the man of the match award.

West Bowling A are top of Division Two following a 26-22 win against Emley Moor.

Former West Hull centre Mark Dunning again showed his prowess with a hat-trick and two goals, with further efforts from Paul Armitage and Bob Benn. Prop Lee Hutchinson was a tower of strength throughout.

Wyke kept in touch with the Division Three pacesetters with an 18-11 home success against York Acorn. The black and whites trailed 6-10 in the mudbath conditions before finally winning the arm wrestle with touchdowns coming from James Barraclough, Paul Coates and Alan Binns all converted by Shaun Godfrey.

Thornton fell for the first time in Division Five, losing 20-10 at home to unbeaten leaders Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks, with scrum half Lee Raistrick crossing for two tries.

Division Six side Wyke A lost 28-6 at Whitworth Spartans. A try and a goal from centre Liam Hay gave them an early lead but home advantage proved to be the dividing factor.
