West Bowling suffered a 26-10 setback in the National Conference Premier Division derby at Thornhill Trojans.

Bowling got off to a flying start with a second-minute try from emergency centre Ricky Helliwell but after that it was all downhill and they limped in 14-4 down at the interval.

A second-half effort from substitute Dan Ramsden, converted by scrum half Steve Illingworth, typified West's resistance but the home side always had the upper hand to run out comfortable winners.

  • Clayton earned pride of place in the Pennine League Premier Division with a sparkling 32-28 success at Keighley Albion.
Stand-off Tony Williams kicked six goals, with Ben Beevers (2), Wayne Davis, John Parkinson and Gareth Judson posting the tries.
  • Queensbury lost 40-20 at Sharlston. The game was delayed for 25 minutes after a home player suffered a broken leg but Bury were always behind the eight ball, trailing 24-6 at the break.
Centre Steve Redman led the Bury challenge with a brace, while Greg Marriot and Ben Moran nipped over for solo efforts and Luke Helliwell kicked two conversions.
  • Birkenshaw posted their biggest win for many a year, trouncing Division One rivals Thornhill 68-6 at home.
Hooker Matt Honeysett was the star of the show with four tries and seven goals, and flying winger Mick Price scored a hat-trick. Loose forward George Flanagan (2), Richard Rhodes, John Evans, Morton Robinson and Paul Bancroft completed the rout.
  • Victoria Rangers refused to take a backward step against a huge Moldgreen pack but they could only manage a try in the corner from winger Danny Cades to swap ends 24-4 down.
They bossed their hosts in the second stanza, when Damian Smith, Len Dalladay and Ross Gratton reached the chalk, but the home side held out to win 38-20.
  • West Bowling A are fifth in Division Two after a well-earned 30-18 win against visiting Dearne Valley Bulldogs.
Bowling were behind 12-8 at half-time following a try from Mark Cooper and two goals by Mark Dunning.

Man of the match Adam Bose was soon over on the restart and Glenn Barraclough, operating in the unusual role of scrum half, scored twice in quick succession, leaving Sam Whitehouse to have the final say with a try on his debut.

  • Wyke relied on experience to see them home 40-18 at Silsden Park Rangers.
Old hands Andy Leek and Craig Hillam bossed the game at half-back and the black and whites were good value for an 18-6 interval lead.

They continued their good form on the restart with Leek (2), James Barraclough, Ian Watkinson, Paul Coates, Alan Binns and Hillam all getting on the scoresheet.

  • Scrum half Kelvin Daulat crossed for four tries in Thornton's overwhelming 62-4 Division Five win against visiting Moldgreen A.
  • In Division Six, Wyke A dropped to second spot after a 54-12 home reverse against Keighley Albion A.
