Wibsey Warriors’ hopes of playing proposed signing Neil Wall from Bradford Dudley Hill against Queens on Saturday have been blocked by the Pennine League.

The administrators are concerned regarding the influx of National Conference League players on a short-term basis until the start of the newly-formed summer competition, which begins in March. Under the dual registration procedures, NCL players would then have to return to their primary club with the Pennine League concluding their fixture programme in May. The Pennine legislators have decided that the implications of dual registration will be decided by the member clubs at a special general meeting on January 16.

In the meantime, the Warriors will be confident their improving squad can gain some measure of revenge for last season’s narrow President’s Cup defeat at the hands of Leeds-based visitors Queens.

PREMIER DIVISION leaders Drighlington will not be relishing the arrival of Queensbury.

The second-bottom club were unlucky to lose the reverse fixture 12-6 and are now on a roll with two successive victories under their belt.

Queensbury also have Trevor Stead, Sam Burrell, Ben Naylor and Sam Poole back in their squad for the clash.

West Bowling have second-row forward Richard Lumb and play-maker Joe Simpson on board at home to Slaithwaite Saracens.

And Clayton will be confident of coming away with the spoils at basement side St Joseph’s.

DIVISION ONE table-toppers Bank Top Harriers are seeking to compete the league double at struggling Dearne Valley Bulldogs.

Harriers wingman Mike Hustler will be itching to continue his try-scoring exploits, which have seen him cross the whitewash 12 times in the last six outings.

Birkenshaw are without Craig Jesse and Mick Emmott with broken bones as they host Moorends Thorne Marauders.

Coach Jason Hirst also has doubts concerning four other squad members and will delay selection until just prior to kick-off. Birkenshaw, who have quietly moved up to second place, will be tested by visitors who have only lost once this term.

In DIVISION TWO, Odsal Sedbergh fans appear set for another try-scoring feast at home to Boothtown Terriers if the sides repeat their previous encounter, which finished 34-30 in the Halifax outfit’s favour.

Undercliffe Wildboars will unveil new signing Isaac Brown at King Cross Park A in DIVISION SIX.

The former Huddersfield Giant will make his debut at hooker, while influential half-back Justin Hunter returns from injury.
