West Bowling’s run in the HAMUEL REICHENBACHER BARLA YORKSHIRE CUP came to an end with a 42-8 defeat at holders Queens in the quarter-finals.
Bowling were still well in contention after posting a try from Nathan Marshall to be narrowly behind 14-4 at the interval, before relentless second-half pressure by the hosts took its toll.
Dominic Hadfield also made the whitewash for Bowling but it was the Leeds side who eased into the last four in convincing style as three late tries massaged the scoreline.
In the PENNINE LEAGUE, a length-of-the-field converted from full back Nick Fontaine gave Wibsey Warriors an early advantage on their PREMIER DIVISION visit to Slaithwaite Saracens but the hosts hit back with what proved a decisive 18-point surge. Packman Ben Cousin reduced the deficit, with scrum half Andy Robinson adding his second conversion, but Wibsey could not breach the home defence again despite a late attempt by Chris Vogel, who was held up inches short in the 18-12 defeat.
DIVISION ONE leaders Bank Top Harries were 40-26 winners at home to Allerton Bywater.
The Harriers ran in seven tries from Finn Lamont (2), Jason Gelder (2), Mike Hustler, Dan Oldfield and Adam Mitchell, who completed the scoring with six goals.
Wyke moved away from the DIVISION TWO basement area following a narrow 30-28 home success over local rivals Odsal Sedbergh.
Sedge struck first when Josh Briggs went over in the corner but the black and whites rallied to post touchdowns through prop Ian Wormald, wingman Ben Barron and centre John Rayner, with stand-off James Dewhirst adding all the extras.
Adrian Doherty posted a converted try for the visitors which, together with a penalty, saw the sides swap ends at 18-12.
Sedge showed their resolve with touchdowns from Duane Platt and Kris Fawthrop, before Wormald levelled matters with his brace.
Hooker Ian Watkinson then crossed, Dewhirst adding the full reward, and although Odsal had the last say when Oliver Priestley made the chalk, the conversion went wide to hand Wyke the spoils.
West Bowling A looked on course to lower high-flying Brighouse Rangers’ colours when they led 10-6 at the interval following tries from Ryan Wilkinson and Glen Barraclough, together with a goal from Joe Ollerenshaw.
But the basement side lost momentum when Matt Sharp suffered a knee injury and, despite a 60-metre scorcher from Jamie Cairns, they eventually lost 36-14.
Liam Jarvis posted a hat-trick of tries and eight goals as Undercliffe Wildboars won 52-14 at higher-placed Wetherby Bulldogs in DIVISION SIX.
Kaz Ahmed (2), Gavin Jarvis, Steve Ingleson, Jake Butterworth and Joe Jepson also contributed to the rout.
