Wibsey Warriors are racing to sign former Keighley Cougars and York City Knights half-back Luke Helliwell in time to face Pennine League Premier Division visitors Clayton on Saturday.
The Warriors will be without free-scoring talisman Mike Derrick through injury but the addition of Helliwell, who played a part in Cougars’ promotion to the Co-operative Champion-ship this year, would be a major boost.
Clayton will be looking to get last week’s shock exit from the Bradford Cup against Birkenshaw out of their system and bounce back to their early-season form.
Queensbury lock horns with Drighlington at Hill-top. Player-coach Andy Senior puts on the strapping to lead the hosts and marksman Scott Swann resumes his position on the wing.
Bury’s youth policy is once again evident, with youngster Jonjo Naylor making his debut against top-of-the-table Drig.
West Bowling, who are finding life back in the Pennine League a little difficult, have a chance to make an advance on the Premier leaders if they take the scalp of second-placed Hunslet Old Boys.
Wests will still be licking their wounds following last Saturday’s cup exit at Bank Top Harriers, with the competition organisers declaring the result of the match – which was abandoned due to a serious injury – will stand.
An elated Bank Top will therefore take to the field intent on retaining top spot in Division One at Lindley Swifts.
Both sides have produced some real tussles in the past but the Swifts are firmly in the doldrums at the moment.
Birkenshaw will also be relishing the trip to Dodworth after the one point cup win over Clayton.
Coach Jason Hirst however is forced to make changes. Team captain Matt Honysett and veteran packman Paul Bancroft miss the game with half-back Mick Emmott and centre Tim Menel drafted in as replacements.
Division Two strugglers Wyke keep the same side that lowered Queensbury’s colours when they welcome Illingworth to Towngate.
The black and whites are now responding to the tactics of coach Nigel Briggs which will ensure that the Halifax outfit will have a lot of chasing to do with the Wyke precision kicking game once again to the fore.
Odsal Sedbergh seek to inflict a first defeat on the visit to Brighouse Rangers and bottom of the table West Bowling A face a difficult task at Kippax Welfare.
