Mike Derrick inspired Wibsey Warriors to their first Pennine League points of the season as they beat visiting PREMIER DIVISION rivals St Joseph’s 44-34.
Derrick led the way with two tries and was ably supported by winger Nick Fontaine, who also claimed a brace.
Further scorers for the Warriors were Mark Darragh, Nick Walker and Scott Smith, while Andy Robinson added eight goals.
Clayton also secured their first victory with a narrow 19-16 verdict against Slaithwaite Saracens.
Dan Belcher and Danny Giles posted first-half tries but it was not until player-coach Scott Pendlebury sneaked over near the end that the points were safe.
West Bowling were beaten 28-4 by a well-organised Drighlington side at Bankfoot.
The visitors’ composure close to the line proved to be the ultimate difference in an end-to-end game.
Loose forward Tim Lumb scored a fine second-half try for Bowling and picked up the man of the match award.
Birkenshaw’s excellent 23-10 win over Allerton Bywater leaves them fourth in DIVISION ONE, just two points off top spot. Mikey Emmott scored on his debut, with Benoit Rogers, Gav Mazels and youngster Kev Reynolds also crossing.
Matt Gowland added three goals, while the man of the match award went to Shaun Godfrey.
Bank Top Harriers surrendered their 100 per cent start 24-18 at home to Newsome Panthers. Bob Brown, Adam Mitchell, Craig French and Paul Priestley scored the Harriers tries.
Honours were even in the big DIVISION TWO derby as Wyke and West Bowling A drew 18-18.
An entertaining game saw Bowling race into a commanding lead thanks to a hat-trick from Andy Wilkinson.
But a second-half Wyke fightback led to the points being shared, their tries coming from Ian Wormald, Kyle Staunton and two by Stevie Richardson.
Leaders Queensbury A hit back from an early deficit to beat Siddal B 30-22 in DIVISION FIVE.
Try-scorers for the visitors were Arran Moore, Sam Poole, Ben Marks, Jimmy Artist, Lewis Symonds and Jonjo Naylor.
Odsal Sedbergh A edged out Sherburn Bears 25-22 in DIVISION SIX thanks to tries from Robert Booth, Jonny Ward, Aaron Scholes and Dominic Kilburn.
But the game was marred when a brawl late on saw no less than five players dismissed, including Ward and James Sharp.
Brett Marriott, Kieran Mackrill and Ste Montgomery were among the try-scorers as Queensbury B beat Rodley Rockets 28-18 to make it two wins out of two in DIVISION SEVEN.
