Huddersfield Underbank Rangers 44 Bradford Dudley Hill 14

LHF Healthplan National League Three defending champions Bradford Dudley Hill played with spirit but were totally outgunned by Rangers.

The hosts finished a difficult season in positive fashion by displaying superb attacking flair in an emphatic nine-try demolition of the Demons.

Huddersfield's success was again built on the back of the powerful runs of props Isaac-Kane Tuirirangi and Jamie Tarazi, a big defensive effort from Arran Crabtree, some superb distribution and width from Dave Birchall and the continual promptings of tireless hooker John Birt.

The home side dominated the early exchanges and, after the visitors were penalised for the markers not being square, Tarazi powered on to a short ball and burst through the would-be defenders to score under the black dot.

Birt added the first of three conversions.

Rangers increased their lead in the next set after Tuiri-rangi had made a blockbusting 60-metre run, the ball being swiftly moved to the right flank by a fantastic cut-out pass from Birchall and the ever-reliable Mark Booth crossed in the corner.

The hosts continued to press but the Demons were next to score when full back Jack Bradbury broke the line and sped 70 metres for a spectacular solo effort.

However, Rangers restored their dominance when Birch-all cleverly switched the point of attack for Aaron Perrin to feed the ever-alert Birt for his first try of the season.

Commendably, the over-stretched visitors hit back and after Underbank had conceded back-to-back penalties for ball-stealing and offside, prop Tom Grey - who was the Demons' best on the day - crossing despite a four-man tackle.

The final score of the half came when Tuirirangi again ripped open the Bradford defence and offloaded to the supporting Dave Edwards, who in turn handed on to Birt for a thrilling touchdown.

The second period started with the visitors exerting all the pressure, forcing two drop-outs, and, when Birt was sin binned in the 47th minute for disputing the legality of a tap restart, Scott Halstead held off two tacklers to cross.

Crucially the conversion was missed and then, to compound the error, the Demons spilt the restart and Rangers made them pay.

After Edwards had gone close, Birchall put Kaveh Bahadori through the gap with a lovely inside ball and the big back-rower found the whitewash with ease. The contest went away from the visitors in the next set as Perrin scored a peach of a try.
