The Pennine League burgermeisters are concerned that, with over 200 games postponed due to the weather, the fixture list will not be completed this season.
Council pitches usually close in June for renovation, and the mounting backlog is therefore causing the alarm bells to ring.
Birkenshaw secretary Morton Robinson has suggested a very credible solution.
He advocates that each club should play each other at least once and ensure equality of games played.
This would then pave the way for each division to complete a play-off structure to determine promotion and relegation.
