West Bowling and Queensbury have been drawn together at the Bankfoot Oval on Saturday, January 29 in the next round of the ACE Insurance BARLA National Cup following their commanding first-round victories.

Bowling won 22-0 at National Conference League Division Two rivals Ovenden with a five-star display in which Damian Smith (2), Dom Hadfield, Liam Brown and Trevor Stead shared the touchdowns. Joe Simpson slotted over the only goal.

West’s played the conditions perfectly to execute a carefully-worked game-plan in which packman Nigel Halmshaw excelled throughout.

Queensbury player-coach Andy Senior led by example, posting the opening try at Glasson Rangers to give them a slender 4-0 first-half advantage.

The big Cumbrian pack ensured they were well in the hunt until Bury’s Joe Swain scored a brace, which, together with two Scott Swann conversions, saw them home and dry at 16-0.

Wibsey Warriors hit top spot in Pennine League Division One West after a 32-0 victory over Birkenshaw.

The Warriors had the game in the bag when they racked up a 20-0 half-time lead. Birky made a good fist of the second stanza, with forwards Paul Bancroft and Sean Godfrey to the fore, but the Warriors were out of sight, with tries coming from Nick Fontaine, Ryan Smith, Scott Smith, Charles Marsh, Phil Brain and Harry Hall. Hall and Andy Robinson shared the kicking duties with two conversions apiece.

Clayton dropped into second place with a 18-4 away defeat at King Cross Park.

The Villagers could only manage a solitary touchdown from Phil Redgrave in a close-run encounter.

In Division Two, Wyke gave hosts Stanningley a real old tussle before being edged out 9-2, while Bank Top Harriers continue to march on with a 24-6 success at Wortley Dragons.

It was the Harriers' mighty pack once again that was the difference between the sides, with props Danny Murgatroyd and James Wild doing the damage down the middle, Stand-off Adam Mitchell scored a brace, one of which was a stunning effort from inside his own half, and hard-working second-row Bob Brown also crossed at the flag in the second half.

Wingman Finlay Lamont posted a freak effort when a high bomb went backwards to catch everyone out, leaving the Harriers top of the table with a game in hand over Newsome Panthers.
