West Bowling A fought out a tough 14-14 draw with Halifax rivals Illingworth in Pennine League Division One.
Aaron Chappell continues to follow in the footsteps of father Phil and is proving to be a real asset to Bowling, following up last week’s man-of-the-match display in style.
Chappell scored twice to earn the visitors a valuable point, while veteran centre Martin Tordoff also grabbed a try and Mark Dunning hit one goal.
Birkenshaw ran leaders Slaithwaite Saracens very close before losing 24-10.
Birky hit the front first but were stunned by a three-try blitz at the end of the half which proved difficult to overcome.
Try scorers for the home side were Ross Grattan and Morton Robinson, who continued his return from injury.
Clayton pulled off a superb win as they dented King Cross Park’s promotion challenge. The visitors had the chance to go second but the villagers had too much power and clinched a 17-8 result that sees them move above Queensbury, whose game was postponed.
Wyke edged closer to the drop as they were beaten 26-12 by fellow strugglers Keighley Town.
Wibsey Warriors moved within a point of Division Two leaders Brighouse Rangers as they dispatched Morley Borough 28-4.
Bank Top Harriers took advantage of Morley Borough’s defeat and gave themselves a two-point cushion in the battle at the opposite end of the table.
Harriers turned in a superb display to run out 13-0 winners, while there was nothing to separate Odsal Sedbergh and Liversedge as they played out a thrilling 16-16 draw in Division Three.
Josh Tordoff was Odsal’s stand-out player with two tries and he was well supported by Adam Moffatt, who also scored.
Queensbury A battled strongly against a well-drilled Silsden Park Rangers outfit in Division Five before going down 28-16.
Michael Boocock opened the scoring and a try from Kelvin Daulat saw Bury hold a 10-6 lead at half-time. Danny Robinson scored a third Bury try but it was not enough.
