Queensbury ruled by brilliant Bowling in Odsal cup final

WEST Bowling produced a magnificent team performance to completely demolish a leaden-footed Queensbury in the Jack Senior Bradford Cup final at Odsal.

The carnage started when Wests wingman Karl Spring sprinted clear to touch down in the corner and scrum half Ben Heald landed a superb touchline conversion.

Second row Ollie Bartle and stand-off Max Trueman combined to put loose forward Richard Lumb over at the side of the posts, followed by a belter of a touchdown from full back Karl Robinson, who supported a powerful break from centre Adam Reardon to race under the uprights. Heald added the extra two to put Bowling into a clear lead at 16-0.

Bury stopped the Bowling bandwagon when wingman Nathan Ridehough pounced on cross kick in the corner and scrum half Jonny Norman kicked a splendid conversion. Centre Aaron Moore charged 50 metres from the restart to boost Bury hopes further but any thoughts of mounting a serious challenge evaporated when Heald sold a clever dummy and side-stepped two defenders en route to the posts.

A simple passing move across the field put centre Ross Walker in at the flag and Reardon cut the defence to ribbons when he shot inside to race under the uprights, leaving Heald to slot over his fourth extra for a 32-6 half-time advantage.

Queensbury's woes multiplied on the restart when Reardon out-jumped their defence to claim his brace, quickly followed by a cracking solo effort from the Jack Turner man of the match winner Trueman, who dummied the sliding cover to glide in with ease.

The classy number six celebrated his second when the Bury rearguard failed to collect a kick through, allowing Heald to register the half-century with his seventh conversion.

Bury, to their credit, restored some pride and dignity and upped their game with some fierce tackling from forwards Joe Flanagan and Tom Hainsworth, which paved the way for second row Jack Evison to make the whitewash for the final try but by this time Bowling's talented youngsters were well and truly celebrating a task well done with one of the biggest winning margins in the history of the Bradford Cup.
