WEST Bowling progressed to the semi-finals of the Pennine President's Cup thanks to a superb 16-8 victory at Leeds outfit Queens.
Bowling started strongly, opening up the Queens defence on a couple of occasions early on.
However, the hosts hit back after taking advantage of some cheap penalties to gain field position and cross for the opening score.
Chris Anderson and Nat Light then took the game to Queens, with their agility and toughness causing real problems, and Bowling's pressure eventually paid off when a great passing move led to centre Joe Smedley crashing over to level the scores.
Things got better for the visitors when first Ben Heald rounded off a similar break to touch down, before stand-off Max Trueman then glided through to make it 16-4 at the turnaround.
Despite conceding soon after the restart, Bowling's disciplined defence stood firm for the remainder of the half to see them safely through.
Joe Lumb and Olly Bartle stood out for Bowling with their workmanlike performances.
Odsal Sedbergh's first Pennine League win of the season still eludes them after they went down 26-18 at King Cross Park in Championship Division One West.
Sedge were looking to put one over their neighbours and Halifax rivals but could not quite find that killer blow.
The defeat leaves them anchored to the foot of the table, two points adrift from St Joseph's.
Sedge's scorers were Ben Cousins, Robert Priestley and Kris Fawthrop, while Luke Dawson added the conversions.
