Jack Senior Memorial Bradford Cup holders Wibsey Warriors went through to the semi-finals after a hard-fought 22-10 first round success against Bank Top Harriers at Lidget Green.

The first half was close, with both sides refusing to give an inch, and the tie was on a knife-edge at 10-10 at the break.

The Harriers had posted tries from Dave Wilkinson and Johnny Waddington, together with an Adam Mitchell extra, but that was the end of their contribution as the Warriors finished off the match with a total of four touchdowns from Chris Vogel, Mike Horrocks, Neil Sutcliffe and Nick Walker. Neil Wall weighed in with three conversions.

Birkenshaw gave Pennine League Division One leaders Methley Royals the fright of their lives before falling to a 40-22 home defeat.

Birky looked to be on course for a memorable win when they led 22-16 going into the final quarter after Alan Binns, Chris Clough, Damian Smith and Gavin Mezals had reached the whitewash, with Matt Honysett adding three of the extras.

However, the Castleford side raised their game to take advantage of Birky’s tired legs.

Wyke are closing in on the Division Two leading pack following the 16-6 double over Underbank Rangers at Towngate.

The black and whites posted the only score in the first stanza when evergreen packman Simon Owen outmuscled the visitors with a powerful plunge on a blindside run.

They increased the tally when player-coach Ian Wormald celebrated his return to action with a customary short range effort, and stand-off Ian Watkinson put matters beyond doubt when he scooted over late on. Mick Wormald was twice on target with the boot.

Undercliffe Wildboars lost 28-20 at Division Four promotion rivals Siddal A.

The Wildboars edged in front 6-4 in a bruising opening half with a try from Willy Woodhead, converted by Aidan Scully.

It was nip and tuck in the second stanza but Cliffe looked to be in the box seat following another touchdown from Woodhead, together with a sparkling effort from Ryan Dixon.

Scully played his part with another four kicks before the Halifax outfit responded in determined style to claim the points.

West Bowling A enjoyed a Division Six 22-8 win at Whitworth Spartans with Karl Spring (2), Alex Sweeney and Reece Salt making the whitewash. Max Trueman (2) and Carl McGuigan kicked the goals.

In Division Seven, Wyke A could only muster a try from packman Cliff Bacon in the 20-4 defeat at Queensbury B.
